Abstract

The basic task of teaching provided at the Department of Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP), Faculty of Law Enforcement is to develop specific-purpose language competences. The paper describes the circumstances that have shaped the teaching of LSP at the Department in the last few decades. The teachers at the Department have recognised that the development of English language programmes and study materials for the various branches of law enforcement requires the use of modern needs analysis methods. It is described how English for border policing and English for customs competences were defined. Another aim of the study is to review the theoretical background of multimedia and to present the educational methodological models that justify the need for a paradigm shift in methodology in both public and higher education. Finally, the study draws attention to the usefulness and systematisation of digital solutions for the development of LSP competences in the context of experiential education.
