Abstract

When analysing the methodological background of qualitative studies that require systematization, the use of quotations is an essential node in the content. The paper aims to synthesise theory and practice in the process of research. Therefore, in addition to the theoretical background, it illustrates the applicability of quotations in qualitative studies by means of concrete research examples. It aims to illustrate the form and content, function, types of quotations and their role in theory-driven, data-driven and combined categorization of different types of quotations in the analysis of text corpora. Furthermore, the paper covers some aspects of transcription, conversion to text corpus and the software background of the process. Furthermore, it demonstrates the role of quotations in the automated process of qualitative (content) analysis. The study provides relevant information for researchers, practising teachers and students who want to pay special attention to the role of quotations in their qualitative studies.
