On the Archontology of County Szabolcs in the 1310s
Main Article Content
Abstract
The previous researches reconstructed the archontology of county Szabolcs in different ways, therefore several versions about the persons and official times of the local lords (in Latin comes, in Hungarian ispán) and their deputies (vicecomes, alispán) were published. This paper aims to provide a new reconstruction, involving some new sources (undated charters). It is likely that the local vicelord named Iván from the Balogsemjén kindred held his office twice. Earlier researches knew only one period, between 1318 and 1321, so all the undated charters of Iván were automatically dated to this period. But he was a local vicelord between about 1313–1315, too. At the first time Ivan was a subordinate of Beke of the Borsa kindred, but after the second rebellion of the Borsas against King Charles I in February 1317, Iván turned against his local lord Beke and changed to the king’s side.
