A katonatiszt és a rendőrkapitány – Két testvér az ellenforradalmi Szegeden THE MILITARY OFFICER AND THE POLICE CAPTAIN - TWO BROTHERS IN SZEGED DURING THE COUNTER REVOLUTION

Absztrakt

A tanulmányunkban az 1919-es Szeged két meghatározó személyének, Pottyondy Miklósnak és Pottyondy Károlynak a szerepét vesszük górcső alá az ellenforradalmi mozgalomban. Cikkünkben először röviden bemutatjuk családi hátterüket, életpályájukat a születésüktől az I. világháborúig, elhelyezzük őket Szeged társadalmában. Ezeket követően térünk ki az 1919-es évre, azon belül pedig kiemelt hangsúllyal vizsgáljuk a Magyarországi Tanácsköztársaság időszakát, és azt, hogy eközben Szegeden milyen események zajlottak, majd bemutatjuk, hogy a testvérpár a különböző ellenforradalmi és kommunistaellenes cselekményekben miként vett részt. Az idősebb fivért, Miklóst, aki rendőrkapitányként működött, elhurcolták a vörösök, majd Szegedre való visszatérése után is megölését tervezték, mert a városban maradt kommunisták elfogásában jelentős szerepet vállalt. Öccse, Károly a világháború egyik legszebben dekorált őrnagyaként tért haza szülőhelyére, s előbb részt vett baloldali parancsnoka eltávolításában, majd 1919 májusában az egyik legfontosabb végrehajtója volt annak a puccsnak, amelynek köszönhetően az ellenforradalom szolgálatába álltak a helyi katonaság tagjai, s lerakták a Magyar Nemzeti Hadsereg alapjait. Írásunk végén röviden kitérünk a tanácsköztársaság bukása utáni időszakra, valamint bemutatjuk, hogy játszottak-e, s ha igen, milyen szerepet a fivérek az ellenforradalom emlékének megőrzésében a két világháború között.

In our study we willl take a closer look at Miklós Pottyondy and Károly Pottyondi, two key persons of the Szeged of 1919 and their role in the counter revolutionary movement. Our article will briefly introduce their family background, their lives from birth till the First World War and their place in their home town’s society. Moving on we will discuss the year 1919 with added emphasis on the time of the Hungarian Soviet Republic and the events that have transpired in Szeged. We will place the two brothers in this framework and show how they played their part in various counter revolutionary and anti-communist actions. The older brother, Miklós, who was a police captain was taken by the reds who planned to kill him even after his return to Szeged, due to the large role he played in the capture of communists remaining in the city. His younger brother, Károly, returned to his home town as one of the most highly decorated majors of the Great War. First played a part in the removal of his left wing superior then in the May of 1919 he was one of most important orchestrators of the coup which placed the local garrison into the hand of the counter revolution and layed the foundation of the Hungarian National Army. At the end we will take a brief look at the time after the fall of the Soviet Republic and talk about what role, if any, the two brothers played in preserving the memory of the counter revolution between the two world wars.
