Absztrakt

The historic County Vas is a multinational field region at the border of three countries: Austria, Slovenia and Hungary. My study is on the one hand the representation of the ethnical configuration; on the other hand it is dealing with the assimilation processes of the ethnicities living in this region, and it aims to unfold the reasons for these processes. The previously mentioned reasons are partly historical ones (change of borders, relocations), or social ones (change in the role of family, increasing mobility), and slightly economical reasons (change of regime). Although the linguistic borders of the region have not shifted since the 17th century, the multilingualism of the various nationalities living in this region gathered speed during the past decades. Besides all these, this present study aims to introduce the national and local types of identity, and also the cultural activity of ethnicities, along with the relationship with the parent state.
